About Tuatahi Racing Axes and Saws
If you have wondered about our name Tuatahi, pronounced Two-Ah-Tah-Hee, it is a Maori name (Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand). We approached our local Maori elders many years ago and they thought this name would be most appropriate, meaning “Number One” or “The Best”.
Staff Profiles:
At Tuatahi we currently have a staff of seven and would like to introduce you to two of our key staff members, Grant Fawcett and Fa'avae Sefo. Grant and Fa'avae both have extensive knowledge on saws/axes. If you have any queries regarding what products will suit various wood types please do not hesitate in contacting us.
Grant Fawcett – Saw Filer/Axe Forger
I have been competing in woodchopping and sawing events since 1987. I have competed extensively in NZ, Australia and USA and have a good knowledge of wood types all over the world. I have been manufacturing Racing Saws at Tuatahi since 1991. When I first started, M Tooth Racing Saws were Number One, now Peg & Raker Racing Saws are taking over in most woods.
I take great pride in my work and that shows in the results my saws have achieved. Tuatahi Saws have won more World Championship events world wide than any other brand. I try to file saws for the individual customer, I don’t just make one type of saw that everyone has to use. Every person saws differently and saws should be customized to suit.
It’s a real thrill when competitors ring me and advise they have won World Titles and set World Records, but it is equally as satisfying when a novice competitor sets their fastest time with a new Tuatahi Racing Saw!
Fa'avae Sefo – Axe Grinder
I have been working with axes at Tuatahi since1989. Throughout that time I’ve seen a lot of changes in axes that are being sent all over the world.
Making Tuatahi Axes is really exciting for me. It gives me the opportunity to try different grinds and really make an axe cut. Tuatahi Axes are the best axes in the world and the results of our work speak for themselves. I believe Tuatahi Axes have won just about every World Title event.
I take a lot of satisfaction out of my job especially when customers contact us to say they have won with their new axe, or even thank us for the workmanship we have done.
I am a competitor in the sport and have represented the NZ A Team as a Single and Double Sawyer. I have also represented the NZ B Team as an Underhand Cutter.
