At Tuatahi we have Videos and DVDs available on “The Basics of Woodchopping & Sawing” and “Axe & Saw Repairs”. Videos are available in either “PAL” or “NTSC” depending on the country we are sending them to.
“The Basics of Woodchopping and Sawing”
New Zealand champ David Bolstad goes through the basics of standing and underhand. He demonstrates step by step how the log should be set up, standing positions, turning techniques for underhand, and the process in which the log should be cut. Tasmanian champ David Foster demonstrates the technique of hard hitting. New Zealand sawing coach Les Bellamy goes through sawing techniques and demonstrates standing positions etc. Single, Double and Jack & Jill sawing techniques are shown. USA champ Carson Bosworth demonstrates his own style of sawing. This is not only ideal for the learner axeman, but gives some good guidelines for all axemen to follow.
“Axe & Saw Repairs”
Eddie Fawcett teaches techniques of filing axes for radiata, getting a flat axe cutting for softwood, and how to stone axes for New Zealand and Australian hardwoods. He will demonstrate the axe and saw filing jigs, how to strip and file m tooth saws, adjusting angles and suggests angles required for hard and soft woods. All competitive axemen should have a knowledge of how to look after their axes and saws and this sets out to do just that.
